GENCON Other Clauses

The clauses (Laytime Provisions, Freight and Cargo Clauses)form the characteristic framework of the voyage charterparty  but to them will be added a selection of other provisions covering such matters as the shipowner’s responsibility for the care of cargo, the conditions under which the vessel may be entitled to deviate from the agreed route, and a group of clauses dealing with the effect on performance of the contractual obligations of such factors as ice, war or strikes. These clauses tend to vary as between the various standard forms of voyage charter and are frequently modified by the parties themselves. It will therefore be more convenient to defer their consideration until after the basic obligations of shipowner and charterer have been examined.
