Iran sanctions cause bulker queue

United States imposes several embargoes and economic sanctions against Iran. United States sanctions are causing port congestion in Iranian ports. Due to United States sanctions, more than 20 bulk carriers stuck in Iranian ports for over a month. AIS data shows Iran linked dark operations and STS (Ship-to-Ship) transfers continue despite the United States sanctions. Most delays in Iranian ports are triggered by payment processing delays. United States sanctions exempt humanitarian supplies, but the measures have still deterred overseas banks from doing business in Iran. Iran caller bulk carriers which are carrying soybeans and corns are being delayed at BIK (Bandar Imam Khomeini) and Bandar Abbas ports due to late payments. Banks and traders are struggling to cope with the difficult situation.
