Athens-based shipowner and operator Niovis Shipping Co. S.A. is expanding its fleet with the addition of two new ultramax bulk carriers. The Piraeus-based shipowner and operator Niovis Shipping Co. S.A. has placed an order for two 64K DWT ultramax bulk carriers at Oshima Shipbuilding. Currently, the Mavroleon family-owned Niovis Shipping Co. S.A. operates a fleet of 19 ships across the dry bulk and tanker segments. This latest order from Niovis Shipping Co. S.A. follows the company’s earlier acquisition of two ultramax bulk carriers, contracted at Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (NACKS) in Q1 2021, after a series of five bulk carriers were constructed at Mitsui Tamano and Mitsui Ichihara in Japan. Once delivered in 2026 and 2027, the newbuilds from Oshima Shipbuilding will increase Niovis Shipping Co. S.A.’s bulk carrier portfolio to 16 vessels on the water. Niovis Shipping Co. S.A. has ordered two (2) geared ultramax bulk carrier new-buildings at the bottom of the contemporary price cycle. Niovis Shipping Co. S.A. is going to receive the two (2) geared ultramax bulk carrier new-buildings in Q1 2022. Niovis Shipping Co. S.A. has ordered two (2) geared ultramax bulk carrier new-buildings will be installed with BWTS (Ballast Water Treatment Systems) but without scrubbers. Niovis Shipping Co. S.A. benefited from low new-building prices. In February 2021, the amount of ordered bulk carrier new-building as a share of the active fleet plummeted to 5.8%, its lowest level since 1995. Athens-based shipowner and operator Niovis Shipping Co. S.A. has denied reports that the company has sold 2009 built supramax bulk carrier 55K DWT MV Oxygen for around $13.5 million. Niovis Shipping Co. S.A announced that the statements were incorrect and Niovis Shipping Co. S.A did not sign any memorandum of agreement to sell the MV Oxygen. Lately, Greek shipowner and operator Niovis Shipping Co. S.A. circulated 2009 built supramax bulk carrier 55K DWT MV Oxygen, 2003 built supramax bulk carrier 55K DWT MV Tigris, 2003 built supramax bulk carrier 56K DWT MV Maroudio in the S&P (Sale and Purchase) market. These supramax bulk carriers have been remained unsold and are still in the Niovis Shipping Co. S.A.’s fleet, despite S&P (Sale and Purchase) reports. 2003 built supramax bulk carrier 55K DWT MV Tigris was believed to have fetched $8 million, however Basil Mavroleon-led London-based Bray Shipping insisted at that time that the MV Tigris was not sold.
