Ship Bunker Fuel Testing Services

Where at all possible, owners should avoid allowing a ship to be in a position where she has no choice but to start burning a new bunker supply immediately after the bunker delivery. Good ship management practice dictates that any new supply of fuel oil should be tested – before it is used – by one of the several excellent bunker testing services that have laboratories in or near the main bunkering ports. This advice can be difficult to follow for those vessels that have  only  two  separate  Fuel  Oil  Tanks. But  so  far  as  most  vessels  are concerned, if they suffer loss or damage from burning untested new bunkers, in circumstances where, with proper planning, they could have delayed doing this until they received test results, their Freight, Demurrage and Defence Clubs might not feel very sympathetic to the idea of supporting owners’ claims against suppliers or charterers.
