Mumbai-listed Shipping Corp of India (SCI) appoints first ever female Managing Director (MD) Harjeet Kaur Joshi. Previously, Harjeet Kaur Joshi was CFO (Chief Finance Officer) of the company and she will replace Anoop Sharma. According to India Ministry of Shipping, Harjeet Kaur Joshi will be the Managing Director (MD) on permanent basis until May 2022. Harjeet Kaur Joshi will be the first ever woman to run state-owned company Shipping Corp of India (SCI). Harjeet Kaur Joshi had been running Shipping Corp of India (SCI) on a temporary basis after Anoop Sharma left after he came to the end of his set term. Mumbai-listed Shipping Corp of India (SCI) was established in 1961 and since the establishment the company has been managed by all male Managing Directors (MD). Harjeet Kaur Joshi takes over at a historic time for Shipping Corp of India (SCI). Previously, Harjeet Kaur Joshi was working at Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) for almost two decades. In 2015, Harjeet Kaur Joshi joined Shipping Corp of India (SCI).

Indian government has approved its privatization of Shipping Corp of India (SCI) through the sale of the Indian state’s entire stake of 63.75% in other words $184 million current share-price level. Shipping Corp of India (SCI) has market value of around $288 million. Currently, Shipping Corp of India (SCI) has a diversified fleet of 135 ships.
