According to information from various shipbroking sources, Greek Laskaridis family-controlled Athens-based Lavinia Bulk Ltd. has initiated orders in China for a total of six (6) kamsarmax bulk carriers with a capacity of 82K DWT (deadweight tons). These orders represent Lavinia Bulk Ltd’s first newbuild orders in quite a while. Four (4) of these kamsarmax bulk carriers will be constructed at Qingdao Yangfan, while the remaining two (2) will be built at COSCO Heavy Industries Yangzhou. Anticipated delivery dates for all six (6) kamsarmax bulk carriers are set between 2025 and 2026, and the specific prices for these orders have not been revealed. The pilot project will test utilizing fuel cells to provide Lavinia Bulk Ltd controlled MV Leonidas with total electrical needs. Greek shipowner and operator Gleamray Maritime intends to acquire a modern kamsarmax bulk carrier from Japanese shipowners. George K Economou’s children owns and operates Horizon Bulkers. Additionally, Horizon Bulkers has been in the S&P (Sale and Purchase) market to acquire additional bulk carriers. In October 2020, Gleamray Maritime circulated 2011 built post-panamax bulk carrier 87K DWT MV Constantinos GO in the S&P (Sale and Purchase). However, Gleamray Maritime withdrew MV Constantinos GO from S&P (Sale and Purchase) market. In September 2020, Gleamray Maritime sold the 2007 built panamax bulk carrier 75K DWT MV Johnny Cash (ex MV Ecostar GO) to Dexter Navigation. In 2020, Greek shipowner and operator Dexter Navigation was established by the Panopoulos family.
