The incident involved the 2011 built panamax bulk carrier 75K DWT MV Georgia S. The ship was navigating away from a Ukrainian port when it encountered the mine. Fortunately, the crew members aboard the MV Georgia S were unharmed in the explosion and managed to navigate the vessel to Romania using its own power. The ships in question are the 74,100 deadweight tonnage (dwt) Little Prince, built in 2001, and the 74,200-dwt Boreal, built in 2002, both constructed by Namura Shipbuilding. Dimitris and George Stefanou-led Sea Gate Navigation bought 2006 built 185K DWT MV Andros Navigator (ex MV Cape Dover) from Japan’s K Line for around $22 million. MV Andros Navigator (ex MV Cape Dover) was built at Japanese shipyard Kawasaki Heavy Industries. Dimitris and George Stefanou brothers are controlling capesize dry bulk carriers via Sea Gate Navigation and other dry bulk carriers are controlled via sister company Bright Navigation. Bright Navigation currently manages 5 panamax and 1 ultramax dry bulk carriers. Sea Gate Navigation, Star Bulk Carriers, Bulkseas, Times Navigation are the top companies that acquired capsize dry bulk carriers in 2018. Greek shipowner and operator have spent around $57 million in total for 3 capesize dry bulk carriers. Sea Gate Navigation, previously acquired 2006 built 176K DWT MV Andros Glory (ex MV NSS Grandeur) and 2003 built 171K DWT MV Andros Beauty (ex MV Aquabeauty).
