Alios Bulkers

Greek Livanos Group dry bulk arm Alios Bulkers sold 2005 built panamax bulk carrier 75K DWT MV Atlantic Hero for around $15 million. 14-June-2021

Greek shipowner and operator Alios Bulkers moved into kamsarmax segment. Stavros Livanos controlled Alios Bulkers has acquired 2019 built kamsarmax bulk carrier 81K DWT MV Atlantic Samurai and 2018 built kamsarmax bulk carrier 82K DWT MV Aquila Ocean. Tanker owners Sun Enterprises’ sister-company Alios Bulkers modestly moved into the kamsarmax bulker segment. On the other hand, Piraeus based Alios Bulkers has trimmed its fleet. In October 2018, Alios Bulkers sold 2004 built panamax bulk carrier 73K DWT MV Ioannnis Zafirakis to Greek shipowner Eastern Mediterranean Maritime (Eastmed) for around $10 million. In June 2018, Alios Bulkers sold 2002 built panamax bulk carrier 74K DWT MV Atlantic Hawk to a Chinese shipowner for around $9 million. 1-December-2019

Thanassis Martinos-led Athens-based shipowner and operator Eastern Mediterranean Maritime (Eastmed) has expanded its fleet with the acquisition of the 2004-built panamax bulk carrier MV Ioannis Zafirakis from the dry bulk arm of Greek Livanos Group, Alios Bulkers. Constructed by Namura Shipbuilding, the MV Ioannis Zafirakis was put on the market in June and has recently been purchased by Eastern Mediterranean Maritime (Eastmed) for approximately $10 million. This transaction not only strengthens Eastern Mediterranean Maritime’s (Eastmed’s) operational capabilities but also reflects the dynamic nature of the maritime asset trading market. The acquisition of MV Ioannis Zafirakis, a vessel with significant carrying capacity and operational history, represents a strategic enhancement of Eastmed’s fleet, particularly in the panamax segment. On the other hand, the sale of this vessel reduces the fleet size of Alios Bulkers, the dry bulk division of the Greek Livanos Group, leaving them with just three bulk carriers: the panamax bulk carriers MV Bellamys, MV Atlantic Hero, and MV Atlantic Horizon. This contraction is indicative of Alios Bulkers’ potential strategic refocusing or fleet modernization efforts in response to evolving market conditions and fleet management objectives. This fleet adjustment for both Eastern Mediterranean Maritime (Eastmed) and Alios Bulkers highlights the continual shifts within the global shipping industry, where companies regularly reassess and realign their asset portfolios to optimize operational efficiency and economic performance. 28-October-2018

Greek Livanos Group arm Alios Bulkers which controls the Livanos Group’s dry bulk carrier fleet has sold 2002 built panamax dry bulk carrier 74K DWT MV Atlantic Hawk (ex MV Jin Kang) for around $9 million to Chinese shipowner. In July 2004, Alios Bulkers bought MV Atlantic Hawk (ex MV Jin Kang) for around $31 million as prices of bulk carriers had started soaring. MV Atlantic Hawk was worth merely $5 million in 2016. Currently, Greek Livanos Group arm Alios Bulkers fleet consists of 5 Japanese-built panamax dry bulk carriers. Besides Greek Livanos Group dry bulk arm Alios Bulkers, Livanos Group’s tanker fleet is controlled by Sun Enterprises with a fleet of 16 tankers. 6-June-2018
